Support Water Project Initiatives in Haiti

Circumstances unique to Haiti explain many of the challenges the country faces today. Major change started in 1804, 220 years ago, when Haiti became the first, formally enslaved black country overthrowing colonial power. Haiti declared itself a free republic, inspiring slave rebellions around the world, but it also created fear in leaders whose countries depended on slaves for economic development. Since then:

  • Foreign neglect and intervention interfered more than helped, disrupting politics, agriculture, and trade.
  •  A brain drain in Haiti started that continues today. The smartest and most motivated Haitians leave for a better life.

HANWASH and its Rotary partners need your help now to continue building potable water infrastructre in communities in Haiti. Safe water sources are essential for Haiti to thrive. Your donation funds well drilling, water purification systems, hygiene awareness campaigns, sanitation facilities and/or the HANWASH administrative expenses so necessary for progress.

There are a few ways to give. Please choose the option that is best for you. Donations are typically tax deductible for qualified US individual taxpayers. We will send you a receipt for your records.

Administrative Expenses
Our greatest need is assistance with administrative expenses. Your financial contributions make a world of difference in our ability to build the foundation of HANWASH to support operations in Haiti, such as:
  • Program management and staff costs
  • Fundraising
  • Capacity-building
  • Partnership development
  • Legal expenses
  • Accounting costs
  • Marketing & communications
  • Travel and logistics
  • Other expenses that arise from time to time, which might not be supported by program grants.

Your donation is supported by a 33% matching grant from the Mattson Foundation. For each $100 raised, Mattson will contribute $33 to HANWASH.

If you can help us with administrative expenses, select the DONATE (Admin) button immediately below or pay by check using the instructions at bottom.

Support for Terre-Neuve
Another very important need is to provide sustainable, potable water to Terre-Neuve, Haiti.

Terre-Neuve is one of the oldest communes in Haiti. It has faced numerous challenges, notably in Lagon, the third communal section. In this region, there is only one source of water that is not nearly sufficient to supply the entire area.

Rotarians in Haiti and in Rotary District 6290 (Michigan/Ontario) are working together as part of the HANWASH Initiative to provide Lagon, the first Terre-Neuve community to be served, with potable water. They are also working with the regional water authority OREPA and the mayor’s office to ensure that all investments are locally led and sustainable.

Your donation is supported by a 33% matching grant from the Mattson Foundation. For each $100 raised, Mattson will contribute $33 to HANWASH.
