The annual Rotary District 6290 Life Leadership Conference, created in 1949 by Rotarians in District 6290, is specifically designed for making a life-long impact on youth leadership development.
Our mission drives us: to educate and inspire youth, utilizing the Rotary motto of Service Above Self, to expand their leadership roles in service to their schools and communities, and to the world.”
Except for 2020, LLC has provided exemplary leadership development for over 6800 Michigan and Canadian youth leaders since 1949. The Life Leadership Conference is a vital example of Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), a program that originated with Rotary International that also encourages servant leadership in youth.
These 150 student leaders are sponsored by Rotary to participate in a fun-filled, exciting conference where they are inspired by a diverse group of exceptional speakers, make life-long friends through fellowship activities, and discuss the ethical and social issues of today. These activities are conducted in an atmosphere of trust and respect. The result is that these students return to their schools and communities motivated to take on additional leadership roles and to find additional ways to serve.
The Life Leadership Conference works to encourage students to be more effective servant leaders by exploring:
  • Fundamentals of leadership
  • Ethics of positive leadership
  • Qualities of a "servant leader"
  • Importance of communication skills in effective leadership
  • Conflict management and problem-solving
  • Building self-esteem and self-confidence
  • Elements of community and global citizenship
  • Rotary's purpose of service to the community and world
PLANS FOR 2021:  Rotary Life Leadership Virtual Conference  May 20-22
District 6290 has decided to move our usual June Life Leadership Conference to a virtual, online conference for 2021 for Covid related safety reasons. We are planning an unforgettable and informative experience for all:
Conference Theme: Rising Above Limitations-Make it Happen!
Thursday, May 20, (7:30-9 pm)
Friday, May 21 (7:30-9 pm)
Saturday, May 22 (9am-1:30 pm).
A follow-up reunion conference session is also planned for mid-Sept TBD.
Conference sessions will be diverse, fun-filled, and paced properly, with room for breaks and small group team-building interaction with their assigned staff member.  We are encouraged every year by feedback indicating students feel they have a safe environment where they can have honest conversations without fear of being judged.
Leading up to the conference we will send a series of emails designed to introduce you to Rotary, include the final conference schedule, inform you on how to connect to the virtual conference, give you a glimpse at what to expect, and offer a little pre-conference fun. You will also receive a swag bag in the mail via the US Postal Service to your residence, which includes all necessary conference materials.
If your goal is to lead with passion and make a difference in this world, welcome to the Rotary Life Leadership Conference!
