Rotaryfest Sault Sainte Marie, Ontario has been happening for 100 years. It is a summer celebration for the city and a fund raiser for various child medical facilities. It is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Sault Sainte Marie with help from the Sault North club. Dozens of volunteers help out each year.
Rotaryfest takes place in Clergue Park on the banks of the Saint Mary’s River. Ribbers compete for recognition. Bands play nightly on three stages. The ones we heard were top notch! The large kids area has many activities. There is a car show Friday evening and a parade on Saturday.
The big fund raiser is a draw for a car, truck or $100,000 cash. This year 21,000 $20 tickets were sold. That’s a gross of $420,000.
Jan and I helped out in the Rotary food tent, judged the ribs (and chicken), rode in the parade and had the privilege to draw the winning $100,000 ticket at 11:45pm on Saturday night.
The amount of work it takes to put on Rotaryfest is almost indescribable. Kudos to all involved. If you ever get a chance to visit Rotaryfest we highly recommend it.
