2023 2024 District Governor, Jeff Coil  Rotary Club of Fremont
Visiting Fremont, Kentwood, and Comstock Park

Fremont

It was good to visit my home club. I rarely attend there because of my visit schedule. It’s a bit of a strange feeling being in front of after being in front of people I don’t know for weeks.  The Fremont club was founded in 1963. During the early days of the club the Gerber Baby Food Company played a large role in the club and in the community. Since becoming owned by a foreign company that influence in the club has all but disappeared.
The club has built Gaga courts for elementary schools and soccer shelters. President Mike Paige leads the club this year. The club is proud to have an Interact club at Fremont High School.

Kentwood

President Lois Craven says Kentwood club projects are focused on clean water both internationally and locally. Recently, they have helped build wells and worked on water projects in Nigeria, Mali, Costa Rica, Jordan, and the Dominican Republic. The club has also worked on local service projects that help clean the Paster Creek watershed. They paid to hire one Kentwood High School student to participate in Plaster Creek Stewards summer watershed project. They sponsor Kentwood students' participation in the life leadership conference.

The club provides college and vocational school scholarships. A matching grant from District 6290 allowed them to partner with Daffodil Ministries to facilitate safe housing and a fresh start for five women who are survivors of domestic violence and their children.

Comstock Park

The Comstock Park Rotary was chartered 71 years ago. It represents many segments of the community to be inclusive of all occupations in our community. Their projects have enhanced the community in many ways. Most notable projects in the past include a playground to York Creek Apartments and the water wheel at Dwight Lydell Park.

The club does 2 chicken BBQs each year, one in June and one in August. Both take place in Dwight Lydell Park.

President Diane Van Epps said they have a goal to start Interact clubs in both Comstock Park and Kenowa Hills High schools.
