Rotary Club of Elk Rapids and Rotary District 6290 secured a matching grant for much-needed veterans services.

In celebration of providing a $2,500 grant from the Rotary Club of Elk Rapids with a $2,500 match from Rotary District 6290 for veterans services at Peace Ranch, several Elk Rapids Rotarians recently visited this special place.

Peace Ranch, located in Traverse City, Michigan, provides equine- (horse-) centered therapy for veterans in need. Visiting from Elk Rapids were Paula Jorge (President), Don Watkins (Veteran and Grant Champion), Larry Tyre, Don Pond, and Jim Nothoff (Good Works Chair). Greeting them at the ranch were Jan Kaschel, Executive Director of Peace Ranch and Jan Stump, Clinical Director. A tour of the facilities and a walking trail followed, including some tranquility exercise for the visitors.

The cabin shown, Landing Zone Peace Ranch (LZPR), was constructed entirely by veterans as a meeting venue.

Director Kaschel expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the Rotary donation to Peace Ranch.

Special shout out to Elk Rapids Rotarian Don Pond, who was the photographer. Thanks, Don!
